Cubs sweep two-game road set over weekend

The Medicine Hat Cubs continued their winning ways on the road this weekend.

They handed the Red Deer Vipers a 13-1 final on Saturday before beating the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 6-3 on Sunday.

Cooper Hilworth led the way in the win Saturday with three goals and an assist. Connor Douglas had two goals and an assist, Roman Cherniak had a goal and three helpers and Kyle Woolridge had two goals. The rest of the Cubs markers came from Colby Friedrich, Levi Schlosser, Connor Miller, Caleb Garrecht and Josh Drefs.

Kellen Bojic picked up his first win between the pipes for the Cubs, stopping 20 shots. The 18-year-old Bojic was acquired at the Jan. 10 major junior trade deadline from the Regina Silver Foxes in exchange for a player development fee. Medicine Hat outshot Red Deer 47-21.

Against Sylvan Lake, Hillwroth had three goals and two assists and Miller added two goals and an assist. Darnell Glasgow tipped in the empty-net goal to cap off the win. Bojic turned aside 26 shots in the victory.

The Cubs (21-5-3) return to the Kinplex on Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest against the High River Flyers.
