Bells will be ringing as Alberta’s best boxers climb between the ropes and onto full display this weekend in Medicine Hat.

The Medicine Hat Boxing Club is hosting the Alberta Silver Gloves and Provincial Elite Box-Offs this Saturday and Sunday at the Wyndham Garden Hotel.

There will be 125 registered boxers taking part in the two-day event, with ages ranging from 8 years old to 36, competing at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

Medicine Hat Boxing Club coach Kerry Fahlman says he is excited for the weekend and there will be some strong local boxers competing.

“We started last year with pretty much a new group and we’ve got some really good up-and-comers here now and some kids are going to be provincial champions this year I’m sure,” Fahlman said. “There’s also a possibility of them winning Canadian championships this year, one or two of these kids.”

The event was originally set for just the Alberta Silver Gloves but due to the world championships being moved up, the provincial championship also had to be moved to this weekend.

Interested fans can get tickets at the door, $20 each or $30 for the weekend, however Fahlman says anyone wanting to attend should get there early, as they expect to sell out quickly.
