The Medicine Hat Cubs continued their winning ways in the month of December, sweeping both of their weekend contests.

The Cubs opened their weekend with a 4-3 overtime win against the Coaldale Copperheads on Friday. Medicine Hat opened the scoring with a first period goal from Josh Drefs and that was the only offence for a long time. The Copperheads struck for three unanswered in the third period before the Cubs answered back with goals from Caleb Garrecht and Levi Schlosser to send the game to extra time.

Garrecht had the overtime winner and Kaiden Morin came out with the win making 21 saves.

On Sunday the Cubs hit the road for High River and handed the Flyers a 9-3 loss. Connor Miller led the way with two goals and an assist and Connor Douglas added two goals and two assists in the win. Kyle Woolridge notched a goal and two assists and Garrecht added a goal and an assist to his weekend totals. Dylan Trembecki, Owen Wagner and Cooper Hilworth each scored against High River and Mark Peddle made 32 saves in the win.

The Cubs (16-4-3) head into their final weekend of action for 2022 as they’ll head back to High River on Saturday for a rematch with the Flyers before hosting the Cochrane Generals on Sunday for a 4 p.m. contest at the Kinplex. The Cubs trail Cochrane by two points in the Southern division with two games in hand.
