The U16 Medicine Hat Matrix went undefeated in the Bridge Battle Tournament last weekend to win ringette gold.
The Matrix opened Friday with an 11-2 win over the South Calgary Avalanche.
Jordy Provost had three goals, Ryleigh Jackiw and Mackenzie Tindall added two each and Grace Ammann, Erika Want, Ella Seale and Bella Heinrichs each had a goal. Ava Allchurch had three assists and Ammann and Tindall both had two helpers.
In their second game, the Matrix beat the Strathmore Ice Flares 6-3. The Matrix came back from a 3-1 deficit with goals from, where they came back from a 3-1 deficit with two goals from Tindall and Provost and Ammann and Allchurch each adding one.
The Matrix topped the Lacombe Edge 7-1 in the final game of their round robin.
Ammann had a hat trick and Want, Allchurch, Jackiw and Provost each scored a goal. Jackiw also had three helpers, Allchurch had two.
In the gold medal game the Matrix, in rematch action, beat the Strathmore Ice Flares 6-1.
Provost led the Matrix with two goals and Jackiw, Want, Kasey Martin and Unreiner each scored in the win.
The Matrix will take the next couple weeks to prepare for the Ed Horvath tournament running Dec. 2-4.
U10
The U10 Step 3 Gators were in action again over the weekend at the Battle of the Bridge tournament.
They kicked off their tournament with a Friday afternoon game on Friday with Brylee Dirk in goal and Kassidy Etienne scoring for the Gators.
Friday evening’s game was their most competitive, with rookie goaltender Evangeline Robins between the pipes and goals by Brinlee Cross and Etienne.
Saturday’s game saw Isabelle Perreault in goal with goals by Grace Stirling and Etienne.
Their final game was on Sunday with Stirling in net and Annalise Robins almost scoring from centre ice.
U12
The U12 Phoenix played a double-header in Calgary on Sunday against the Bow View Night Howlers. Their first game ended in a 5-5 tie after solid goaltending by Sophia Smith and defensive play to keep the Bow View team at 5. Lacey Gibney led the Phoenix with two goals and Breanna Lanuk, Brea Butterfield and Olivia Ulbricht each had a goal.
In the second game, the Phoenix lost 12-10. Jacqueline LeBLanc turned aside many strong shots during the game. Again leading the offence was Gibney with six goals. Butterfield and Lanuk each added two of their own.
They will play next at the Ed Horvath tournament.
U14
The U14 Mud Dawgs hosted the Cochrane Rockies for two home games Saturday at the Moose Recreation Centre.
In the first game, Emma Pinnell came close to a shutout allowing only one goal during an 18-1 win. Mud Dawgs goals were scored by Leghton Wright who had four, Josie Hillson and Eden Schmunk with three each. Margot Kerr, Reese Tabor and Jayna Allchurch each added two goals and Madison Helgeson and Kristyn Want rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
In their second game, Pinnell again close to a shutout in their 11-1 win. Sadie Berstad had two goals and two assists in her first game of the season playing outside the goal. Kerr had a hat trick with Wright and Tabor each scoring two goals and Schmunk and Van Maarion adding a goal each.
