Eagle Butte girls, McCoy boys volleyball earn trips to provincials

Two local volleyball teams will be suiting up in provincial action this weekend.

The Eagle Butte Talons Sr. girls team and the McCoy Colts Sr. boys team both punched their tickets last weekend to the provincial tournament held at Winston Churchill high school starting Thursday.

The 3A South Zone Girls championships were held at Eagle Butte and the Talons defeated Crescent Heights High School, Cardston High School and then finally, McCoy High School en route to the championship game. They eventually lost to Winston Churchill in the finals (25-17, 25-20, 25-22), but the win over McCoy in the semifinals earned EBHS a birth to provincials.

The Colts earned their birth after losing to Cardston in the 3A South Zone finals (25-22, 25-20, 25-23).

Both teams will get five round-robin games (two Thursday, two Friday, one Saturday morning), before the playoffs begins Saturday afternoon.
