Rattlers roundup: Men’s basketball splits weekend

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team ended their weekend with a win.

The Rattlers won 87-81 on the road Saturday against the Northwestern Polytechnic coming off an 84-80 loss on Friday against the NAIT Ooks.

Jordan Biggar led the Rattlers in Saturday’s win with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. Cooper Ward and Keiran Isnor each picked up eight rebounds to go with their 17 and seven points, respectively.

In Friday’s loss, Ethan Robinson led Medicine Hat with 27 points, Biggar added 24 points of his own (points were the only stat reported from Friday’s games).

The Rattlers’ women’s team dropped both of their games, losing 71-44 on Friday against NAIT and 58-51 Saturday against Northwestern.

Hailey Hoffart had 10 points for MHC against NAIT and Brynn Bremner led the way on Saturday with 10 points, five rebounds and four steals.

The Rattlers men’s (6-2) and women’s (0-8) basketball teams have a two game home set this weekend against the Olds College Broncos. The women’s games are 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday with the men’s following at 8 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Volleyball

The Rattlers men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the NAIT Ooks on Friday and the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Saturday at the Snake Pit.

The men’s team dropped both games, losing in three sets (25-17, 28-26, 25-18) against NAIT and in four sets (26-28, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21) against Northwestern.

Nathan Chernik had 10 kills and Remy Gris had eight digs against the Ooks. Chernik also led the Rattlers against the Wolves with 17 kills, Jordan McKee had 12 kills as well.

The MHC women’s team split their weekend, beating NAIT Friday in three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) before falling to Northwestern on Saturday in three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-21).

Ella Nichols was the Rattlers leader Friday with seven kills against NAIT. Anica Habertstock had five kills on Saturday.

The Rattlers men’s (1-9) and women’s (3-7) will be on the road this weekend as they head to Olds College to battle with the Broncos.

Hockey

The Rattlers women’s hockey team travelled to Calgary on Saturday to face the Calgary Fire. They lost 5-1 in the exhibition action.
