The U14 Medicine Hat Mud Dawgs brought home a gold medal this weekend from Airdrie.

They won first place at the Airdrie Ring of Fire Tournament. The Mud Dawgs started their tournament off strong, with back-to-back wins against Pembina and Regina on Friday.

They continued their winning streak through Saturday against the host team Airdrie and Drayton Valley. The Mud Dawgs met up with Drayton again in the gold medal game on Sunday and weathered a comeback attempt by the Drillers to capture gold.

U16

The U16 Matrix hosted the Strathmore Ice Flares for a double header on Sunday. In the first game the Matrix beat Strathmore 8-4. Grace Ammann had two goals and an assist and Kasey Martin had two goals of her own to help lead the offence. Jordy Provost, Ryleigh Jackiw and Alexis Unreiner each had a goal and an assist and Mackenzie Tindall added a goal of her own.

In their second game the Matrix held off the Ice Flares 9-6. Leading the offence was Provost with two goals and an assist. Tindall had two goals and Martin, Ammann and Jackiw each added a goal and an assist. Bella Heinrichs and Karly Stennick each added a goal.

Kyree Stern stared between the pipes in both wins.

The Matrix look to build off their weekend wins as they head into play this weekend at the Lethbridge Bridge Battle tournament.

U12

The U12 Phoenix played two exhibition games against the Lethbridge Rattlers. The Medicine Hat Phoenix came out strong in the first game winning 16-9. Goaltender Jacqueline LeBlanc made some big saves and Medicine Hat was first on the board with a goal from Breanna Lanuk before Lethbridge was quick to tie up the game. Brea Butterfield, Lanuk and Lacey Gibney scored four goals each and Olivia Ulbricht and Jordyn LeBlanc each added two goals.

In their second game, the Phoenix came out with a 15-14 win, with the game winning goal scored by Butterfield. Goaltender Sophia Smith helped hold the Rattlers at 14 with her play between the pipes. Medicine Hat’s goals were scored by Kassidy Etienne with five, Butterfield and Gibney with three, Lanuk with two and Ally Martin and Ulbricht with one each.

The Phoenix play next on Sunday with a doubleheader in Calgary.

U10

The U10 Step 3 Gators were in action over the weekend hosting the Airdrie Sting at the Moose Recreation Centre. This is the first year the Gators are playing on full ice and they are climbing the learning curve with each game while maintaining positive attitudes.

They did not win either game Saturday but showed resiliency and improvement in their defensive play. The goalies in the games were Isabelle Perrault and Arika MacDowell who turned aside many shots per game with the support from their teammates.

Kassidy Etienne scored a goal in each game. Another highlight was Katie Vis’instincts in her offensive play and hustle from Annabelle O’Reilly and Brinlee Cross.
