The Medicine Hat Cubs will be returning to action in the Kinplex on a high note.

After spending two straight weekends on the road and stretching their winning streak to five, the Cubs have two home games this weekend with the Cochrane Generals in town Saturday and the Sylvan Lake Wranglers at the Kinplex on Sunday.

The Cubs enter the weekend following a 4-3 overtime win last Saturday against the Coaldale Copperheads.

Cooper Hilworth and Colby Friedrich scored in the first period to give Medicine Hat a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Kyle Woolridge scored 15:05 into the second to put the Cubs ahead 3-1 before Coaldale scored with 47 seconds left to keep the deficit at one. The Copperheads sent the game to overtime with a power play goal in the third.

Connor Douglas was the hero in extra time, scoring 3:23 into the extra frame to pick up the two points for the Cubs. Kaiden Morin was between the pipes in the win, turning aside 19 shots.

Medicine Hat was supposed to face the High River Flyers on Sunday but that game was postponed due to weather and road conditions.

When the Cubs (7-3-2) host Cochrane on Saturday, they will have a pregame ceremony and commemorative jersey silent auction for their game-worn limited edition military jerseys.

That game gets underway at 6 p.m.
