The Medicine Hat Tigers couldn’t stay ahead Friday night. After scoring 26 seconds into the game, the Tigers allowed five straight Calgary goals to fall 5-1 to the Hitmen on the road. Medicine Hat entered the game after losing 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night at Co-op Place against the Victoria Royals. Friday’s defeat marks four in a row for the Tigers. Defenseman Pasha Bocharov had Medicine Hat’s early offence, with Shane Smith picking up the assist on Bocharov’s fourth goal of the season. The Hitmen added two goals in the first to take their game winning lead, with Ethan Moore scoring on a power play for his first goal of the season and Riley Fiddler-Schultz notching his 10th goal of the young WHL season less than a minute after Moore’s. The Hitmen converted on two of their eight power plays and held the Tigers at bay on the man advantage, as they went 0-6 on the power play. Calgary added the only offence of the second frame when Oliver Tulk scored his seventh of the season with 1:31 left in the frame. Sean Tschigerl furthered the Hitmen’s lead in the third period with a short handed goal 7:50 into the period for his first goal of the year. With 7:38 left in the game, defenceman Rhett Parsons laid a hit in the neutral zone and was given a five minute major and a game misconduct penalty for charging on top of a roughing infraction for his actions after the hit. Smith and two Hitmen also received roughing penalties on the post whistle shenanigans. Carter Yakemchuk scored his first of the season on the five minute power play to cement Calgary’s 5-1 win. Brayden Peters picked up the win between the pipes for Calgary, turning aside 26 of the shots he faced. Across the ice, Beckett Langkow made 30 saves for the Tigers. Medicine Hat (4-7-3) is back in action Saturday when they host their Highway 3 rivals Lethbridge Hurricanes at Co-op Place for a 7 p.m. contest. 11
