sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Cubs extended their winning streak to four games over the weekend. The Cubs had only one game this weekend and they took care of business, beating the Airdrie Thunder 6-3 on the road Saturday. Medicine Hat opened the scoring 9:16 into the period with Kyle Woolridge’s first goal of the game. Dylan Trembecki and Connor Miller had the assists. Airdrie answered back 45 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1 after 20 minutes. The Thunder opened the scoring in the second with a goal 2:33 into the period. Braden Patey and Connor Douglas scored within two minutes of each other in the middle of the second period to put the Cubs ahead 3-2. Vaughn Strutt, Colby Friedrich and Caleb Garrecht had the assists on the goals. Airdrie scored 50 seconds after Douglas’ goal but it was all Cubs after that. Friedrich added a power play goal with 1:21 left in the second period to re-establish Medicine Hat’s two-goal lead through 40 minutes. Trembecki and Douglas had the assists on the power play marker. Douglas and Woolridge each scored in the third period to cement the 6-3 win over Airdrie. Mark Peddle made 23 saves Saturday for his third win between the pipes for Medicine Hat. The win gives the Cubs (6-3-2) four victories in a row, putting them in third place in the HJHL’s Southern Division, as they head back on the road this weekend. They are in Coaldale on Saturday to face the Copperheads before heading to High River on Sunday to take on the Flyers. Their first game back in the Kinplex is Nov. 12, when they host the Cochrane Generals. 13
