It hasn’t been the easiest season for the McCoy Colts football team but they are ready to hit a new gear with the arrival of the playoffs.

Coming off a 30-12 loss to the Brooks Buffalos on Oct. 14, the Colts finished their Rangeland Football Conference regular season in fourth place of the league. Head coach Jole Krassman says the loss to Brooks was a learning effort and one they look to build off.

“We’re seeing really good results, we’re seeing good character, the kids are very resilient and that’s the key word that I want to try for this team. We’re very resilient,” Krassman said. “I told the kids in the dictionary, if you look at the word resilient, there should be a picture of the McCoy Colts football logo, because we keep coming back and we come back enthusiastic and we’re having fun. That’s the biggest thing, resiliency is learning to overcome these obstacles and just keep doing it with a smile on your face, trusting the process and getting better.”

The Colts enter the playoffs with a matchup against the first place Hat High Hawks, that game gets started Friday at 7 p.m. at the Methanex Bowl. Krassman, who will be coaching his first playoffs since taking over the program this fall, said he’s looking for his team to come out hard and hopefully surprise the Hawks.

“My goal has always been, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. That’s my message to the kids this week,”Krassman said. “Let’s just go out, let’s be hungry and let’s just try to want it more. Go out and give it everything we got.”

“Any given Sunday, any given Friday night, there’s a team that’s going to win and there’s a team that’s going to finish second place. If we just put our heads down and keep it close, you know, good things could happen.”
