Tigers win big in Tri-City on Wednesday

By James Tubb on October 12, 2022.

The Medicine Hat Tigers did not hold back offensively Wednesday night.

The Tigers put up 11 goals against Tri-City as they beat the Americans 11-3 for their second win of the U.S. road trip. Medicine Hat entered the contest on the heels of an 5-2 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Seven Tigers ended the game with multiple points as Medicine Hat’s offence was in full throttle against the Americans.

The two clubs traded goals early in the game as Medicine Hat was the first on the board. The Tigers opened the scoring 4:50 into the contest on Shane Smith’s first goal of the game. Brendan Lee and Bogdans Hodass picked up their first of many assists.

Tri-City answered back 24 seconds later with a goal from Tyson Greenway. Less than two minutes later Medicine Hat regained their lead with a goal from Brayden Boehm. Oasiz Wiesblatt and Rhett Parsons had the helper on the marker. It was only 29 seconds later when the Americans answered back with Adam Mechura’s third goal of the season.

The Tigers retook the lead late in the frame with Boehm’s second of the game with 4:14 left in the period. Defenceman Pasha Bocharov and forward Tomas Mrsic had the helpers on Boehm’s third goal of the season.

Medicine Hat outshot the Americans 46-24 in the contest.

Dallon Melin scored what would be the game winning goal 2:42 into the second period for his second on the season. Hodass had the assist. The Tigers added two more goals in the frame as Cayden Lindstrom wired home a rebound pass from Dru Krebs for a power play goal before Bocharov scored with a shot from a top of the circles to put the Tigers ahead of the Americans 6-2. Brendan Lee had the second assist on Lindstrom’s second goal of the season and Krebs and Basha picked up the helpers on Bocharov’s first marker of the campaign.

The Tigers kept the offence flowing in the third period when Lee blasted home a one-time shot on a power play, Hodass and Krebs with the assists on Lee’s fourth goal of the season. A little over halfway through the third Smith picked up his second goal of the game off passes from Parsons and Lee. Deagan McMillan scored for Tri-City at the 12 minute mark of the frame to cut the Tigers lead to 8-3.

But Medicine Hat was determined to keep the scorekeepers busy as they added three more goals to end the frame. Tyler MacKenzie scored his fourth goal of the season (Mrsic, Boehm) before Smith completed the hat trick with a short handed, breakaway goal for his fourth marker of the year. With eight seconds left in the game Basha knocked in a rebound on a Tigers power play for his fourth goal of the season. Krebs and forward Oren Shtrom had the assists on Basha’s goal, as the Tigers finished 3-for-7 on the man advantage on route to the 11-3 win over Tri-City.

Tigers net minder Beckett Langkow, who has started all seven contests for the Tigers, turned aside 21 shots for his third win of the season. The Tigers(3-3-1) are off on Thursday before they head to Spokane on Friday to take on the Chiefs in the final game of their U.S. road trip. That contest gets underway at 8:05 p.m. MST.
