Minor hockey roundup: U16AA Hounds open season with win

The Medicine Hat U16AA Hounds got their 2022-23 season started on a high note.

The Hounds beat the Wheatland Raiders 5-3 Saturday night at the Kinplex. Grady Ford had two goals in the win, while Davin Torgerson and Jaxon Scrivener each had a goal and an assist and Ty Hanson added a goal to round out the Hounds offence. Parker McLaughlin had 28 saves in the win.

The U16AA Hounds have a set of games this weekend as they’re on the road against the CRRA Gold on Saturday and host the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc on Sunday at the Kinplex.

U15

The U15AAA SEAC Tigers were in action twice this weekend. Saturday the Tigers hosted the Calgary Flames and fell 6-2. Theron Bensler and Ty Wasyluk scored for SEAC and netminder Hudson Corbett made 58 saves in the loss.

On Sunday the Tigers took on the Calgary Northstars and lost 4-1. Bensler had SEAC’s lone goal and Grady Brost made 31 saves between the pipes.

The U15AAA Tigers are back in action Sunday when they hit the road to face the Calgary Royals.

The U15AA SEAC Tigers won their first contest of the season, beating the Foothills Bisons 3-2 on Sunday. Logan Neuls, Griffen Aadland and Mavric Ward each tallied a goal for the Tigers. They’re back in action Saturday at home against the Central Alberta Selects.

U13

The U13AA Medicine Hat Hounds got their season started in a big way this weekend, outscoring their opponents 20-5 over two games. On Saturday the Hounds beat the Central Alberta Selects 15-2. George Maser and Carter Gilchrist led the way offensively as they each had five points in the win. Maser had three goals and two assists, Gilchrist had two goals and three assists.

Trevin Ibach, Chase Droeske and Carter Jarvis each had two goals and one assist, and Evander Leupold and Everett Ward each had a goal and an assist. Beckham Girletz and Mason Pollard each had a goal in the win and five Hounds also registered an assist. Braden Tschritter logged 18 saves for the victory.

On Sunday, the Hounds beat the Olds Grizzlys 5-3. Girletz led the way on the scoresheet with a goal and two assists. Droeske had two goals of his own, and Ward and Maser each added a goal in the win. Paxton Smigelski made 41 saves between the pipes.

The U13AA Hounds are back in action this weekend as they host the Foothills Bisons Saturday before hitting the road Sunday to take on the Airdrie Lightning.
