Rattlers golf team wins big at provincials

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s golf team continued their season of success this weekend by capturing a provincial championship.

The Rattlers won the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference title in Edmonton, shooting a three-round total of 21-over par, putting them 15 shots ahead of second place SAIT.

Chase Broderson had the second best round on Sunday, shooting an even 72 to give him a total score of even for the weekend and earning him the silver medal in the men’s event. Colby Friedrich took bronze with a score of three over and Jayden Dudas came in fourth place after shooting six over. Rattlers Matt Taylor finished tied for sixth, Johnathan Bartman was eighth and Brady Deboice finished tied for 10th.

The Rattlers women’s team took home the silver at 171-over par, beating Concordia University by seven shots. SAIT took the top spot.

Rattler Libby Bourassa placed third in the individual competition. Amaly Bartman finished her tournament tied for sixth place.

The next golf tournament on the calendar for the Rattlers is the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association golf nationals in October.

Rattlers soccer

The MHC women’s soccer team played twice on the weekend. On Saturday they fell 14-1 to Red Deer Polytechnic. Maisa Rebello had their lone goal with a penalty kick. The Rattlers followed with a close 1-0 loss to the University of Alberta-Augustana on Sunday.

The men’s team lost 4-2 to the Red Deer Polytechnic in its only contest of the weekend on Saturday. Felix Danquah and Brayden Roman had the Rattlers’ goals.

The Rattlers women host the Lethbridge Kodiaks on Friday at the college for a 2 p.m. contest before welcoming the Ambrose Lions on Sunday at noon. The men’s team takes on Lethbridge on Friday at 4 p.m. and the Lions on Sunday at 2 p.m.
