Tigers trim roster with two trades ahead of home opener

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on September 21, 2022.

The Medicine Hat Tigers made a pair of trades Tuesday afternoon as they look to shorten up their roster before the regular season gets underway.

The first deal of the day sent 18-year-old goaltender James Venne to the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for an eighth-round pick in the 2025 WHL prospects draft.

The Saskatoon product was originally undrafted but signed with the Tigers in March 2021.

“We’d like to thank James for all that he brought to us as a member of the team on and off the ice,” Tigers general manager and head coach Willie Desjardins said in a media release. “We wish him all the best in Prince Albert.”

The team’s second move of the afternoon was trading 18-year-old forward Steven Arp to the Winnipeg Ice. The Tigers received a conditional ninth round pick in the 2025 WHL draft in the deal.

Arp was undrafted and signed with the Tigers during training camp in September 2021.

In 50 games last season in the orange and black the Swan River, Man. product had three goals and six assists for nine points.

Desjardins said in a release that the Tigers will miss Arp’s contributions to the organization.

“We’d like to thank Steve and his family for all that he brought to us as a member of the team, on and off the ice he was a great Tiger and we wish him all the best in Winnipeg.”
