The Medicine Hat Mavericks are holding onto the fourth and final playoff spot in the WCBL’s East division.

The Mavericks lost 9-5 Tuesday night to the Lethbridge Bulls at Athletic park putting the Mavs’ record at 17-36. The Weyburn Beavers, who sit behind Medicine Hat in the standings with a record of 13-38, also lost Tuesday night, falling 9-1 to the Regina Red Sox. Their loss means they did not gain any ground on the Mavericks.

Medicine Hat head coach Tyler Jeske said the message to his team after the loss and heading into a week of pushing to clinch their playoff appearance, is be themselves.

“We can’t put too much pressure on ourselves. We need to go about this as, let’s just take care of business and do what we do,” Jeske said. “What Weyburn does isn’t something we can control, that’s something for me to worry about. But when it comes to us, and us as a team and what we’re doing in game, we just have to continue to be ourselves and be the best version of ourselves.”

The Mavericks were off Wednesday as they gear up to host the Beavers for a two-game set on Thursday and Friday that could decide the playoff standings. A Weyburn loss Wednesday and a Mavericks win Thursday or a Mavs sweep of both contests, would mean a clinched playoff spot for Medicine Hat.

Thursday’s contest at Athletic Park gets underway at 7:05 p.m.
