Rodeo gets underway Thursday evening with eight events

The Medicine Hat Stampede Rodeo got underway Thursday night at the grandstand.

Cole Goodine had the top score in Thursday’s first event, bareback riding, with a score of 86.5 points. Kody Lamb was in second with 84 points.

Leading the steer wrestling event was Derek Frank with a time of 4.2 seconds, two milliseconds ahead of second-place Cody Cassidy.

Hayden Cole took the Day 1 lead in saddle bronc with 78 points. Nicholas Patterson narrowly tied for first, finishing in second with a 77.5 ride.

Quentin and Grady Branden finished first in the team roping with a time of 6.8 seconds. Brett McCarroll and Clint Buhler finished in second with a 6.9-second run.

The tie-down roping event had Austin Hines finishing first with an 8.4-second run ahead of the second-place tie of Shane Smith and Morgan Grant who had 9.2-second runs.

Lynette Brodoway was the Day 1 barrel racing leader with a run time of 16.33 seconds ahead of Cranna Roberts in second place with 16.47 seconds.

Jordan Hansen led the bull ring with an 84.5-point ride, with Nick Tetz in second with an 80-point ride.

Kendal Pierson finished in first of the Day 1 breakaway roping with a run of 3.29 seconds. Jade Kenney was in second place with a time of 3.8 seconds.

Day 2 of Rodeo was Friday night starting at 8 p.m. with the final day starting Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
