MH Panthers Track Club pick up 16 combined medals at Athletics Alberta provincials in Calgary

The Medicine Hat Panthers Track Club competed at the Athletics Alberta Outdoor Championships last weekend in Calgary.

The Panthers picked up six golds, three silvers and seven bronzes in the three-day event.

Tristan Friesen was the Panthers’ big winner of the weekend, picking up golds in the U20 shotput, discus and javelin competition, with a silver medal in the hammer throw to round out the event.

His brother Riley Friesen competed at the same level and picked up a silver in the discus competition and bronzes in both the shootout and hammer throw.

Keegan Kolody won two gold medals in the U20 Special Olympic competitions, earning the top standing in both the 1,500m and 5,000m races.

Sarah Pimblett picked up the Panthers’ last gold medal in the U20 high jump competition. She also won silver in the triple jump and brought home bronze medals in the 100m hurdles, long jump and javelin.

Zaynna Willoughby took bronze in two U16 competitions, the shot-put and hammer throw. She also competed in the 100m hurdles, 100m and 200m races and finished fifth, 13th and 21st.

Gage Smith ran in the U20 division in the 800m and the 1500m and finished eighth and ninth respectively.

Eve Maser was the Panther’s other U16 competitor and she ran in the 100m, 200m and 300m races finishing eighth, seventh and ninth.

The Panthers Track Club is off for a summer break before they get started up again at the end of August with cross country. Fall throwing events start up in early September, and fall indoor training gets underway in early October.
