Panthers track and field shines

The Medicine Hat Panthers Track Club spring season got underway in early April and the athletes have been out in full force since.

Multiple Panthers took part in CALTAF Classic in Calgary form June 10-12.

Riley Friesen competed at the U20 level in hammer throw, discus and shootout and finished in third, eighth and fifth place.

His brother, Tristan Friesen, also competed at the U20 level in the hammer, discus, javelin and shot put events and placed second, sixth, second and third, respectively.

Tristan has been named an alternate on the Canada Summer Games team team competing in Niagara Falls from Aug. 6-21.

Three other Panthers competed at the CALTAF classic.

Hannah Kozakewich took part in the U18 1500m race and finished fourth. Eve Maser competed at the U16 level in the 100m and 300m and placed 10th and 13th. Zaynna Willoughby took part in six events at the U18 level, placing fourth in shot put, fourth in hammer, third in 400m hurdles, third in 100m hurdles, 12th in 100m and 15th in 200m.

Maser and Willoughby also competed at the Foote Field Open on June 17-19. Maser competed in the 100m, 200m and 300m races and placed 11th, 12th and 12rh. Willoughby competed in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, shot put and hammer and placed 18th, third, seventh, third and fourth respectively.

Three Medicine Hat Panthers Track and Field athletes received their Top 10 Alberta Cross Country award last week.

Weston Nixdorf was named the Athletics Alberta Top 10 U10 XC athlete, Andrew Vis the Athletics Alberta Top 10 U12 XC athlete and Odin Jordet awarded the Athletics Alberta Top 10 U14 XC athlete award.
