The Medicine Hat Softball Association has enjoyed a strong season. The eight Thunder softball teams are heading toward wrapping up their year with their upcoming Softball Alberta Provincial Championships. The U19 Thunder Red team includes locals and girls from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. They are looking at finishing third in the GPLS with hopes of medalling at B provincials July 8 in Bonnyville. The U17 Thunder Black played a majority of their games in the newly established Southern Alberta Softball Series league, competing primarily against teams from Calgary, Lethbridge and Drumheller. With games over three weekends, the Thunder U17 Black finished with a 6-6 record, good for second place in the league. The Medicine Hat U15 Thunder Red are heading into Alberta Softball U15 “A” Provincials July 1-3 in Calgary as they battle to move on to the Canadian Championship or Western Canadian Championships. The U15 Thunder Black are heading into Alberta Softball U15C Provincials with an 9-6-1 record. The Southern Alberta Series over three weekends gave them an opportunity to play three weekend tournaments on top of numerous exhibition games against other local Thunder teams. They head to provincials July 15-17 in Stettler. The U13 Thunder Red took part in the MHMSA House League and played in the GPLS ‘B’ League. They went 9-0 over their two weekends of games and will compete in A provincials in Calgary July 1-3. The U13 Thunder Black had two second place finishes in SASS play and are set to play Brooks tonight for first in the Westhills’ Hits and Spits tournament. They’ll compete in some exhibition games before C provincials in Leduc July 14-16. The U11 Thunder spent the spring participating in SASS attending three tournaments. Their season wraps up July 1-3 at provincials in Lloydminister 10
