Medicine Hat News Some of the top skateboarders in Canada will be divulging on Medicine Hat. The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is hosting the Beat the Heat skateboard competition at the Kinsmen Skate Plaza on July 1. Beat the Heat is one of the biggest amateur skate competitions in the country, with more than $25,000 in cash and prizes and more than 100 competitors from across Canada. This year’s Beat the Heat Open Cash winner will take home $3,000 as well as an entry into the Tampa Am Saturday Qualifier, with flights and accommodation. On top of skateboarding, there will be a low-cost family alternative, the Fictional Family Funanza Extravaganza. There will be a presentation from Elementz Dance regarding the joy of Ukrainian Dance and recognizing the Ukrainian flag. There will also be food trucks, a side stage featuring cultural performances and acoustic music, free jump castles and displays. The festival will take place across from the skateboard park in front of the Parks & Rec building. 7
