Jeff Bullock and Cade Harrison will trade in their Medicine Hat jerseys for Team Alberta ones this summer.

The duo of Grade 11 baseball players from Medicine Hat High school were named to the Alberta baseball team which will compete at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls, Aug. 6-21. They’ll be joined by Hatter Brett Getz who is playing baseball at the Vauxhall Academy of baseball.

Harrison said he’s excited for the tournament and getting the chance to go with Bullock, who he’s known and played ball with since they were young.

“It’s amazing; Jeff and I grew up together since we were really young,” Harrison said. “It’s cool to put all of our pictures growing up together side by side and all the way up to this big team.”

Harrison will represent Alberta as a pitcher and Bullock will be his catcher, something Bullock is looking forward to. He’s also excited at the opportunity to represent his province.

“A lot more pride, there’s a lot of people looking up and giving their support,” Bullock said.

Both were part of the Hawks senior boys baseball team that won the provincial HS baseball championship against the McCoy Colts on June 2. Harrison said he’s already excited to see what the Hawks can do next season after this year’s success.

“It’s been incredible, no one expected it to go this far after COVID,” Harrison said. “But it’s been exciting. We’ve won provincials for Hawks, Moose Monarchs is picking up its season and now this, it’s incredible.”

Harrison said the Alberta coaches sought him out at the tryouts and Medicine Hat Mavericks owner/general manager Greg Morrison helped him and Bullock with lessons last season. Both Harrison and Bullock touted Hawks and Monarchs head coach Lyall Foran as someone who helped get them to where they are.

“He’s helped me gain a lot of knowledge and skills throughout our five years now, he’s done most of the work,” Bullock said.

Editors note: An earlier version of the story stated only two hatter would represent Team Alberta. There will be three playing at the Canada Games.
