Monarchs split weekend contests, Knights stumble

The Medicine Hat U18 Monarchs went even in four weekend games.

They opened the weekend with an 8-3 loss to the Braves U18AA. Payton Eddy was the starter and worked six innings with four strikeouts. Kayden Hleucka led the way offensively with a three-RBI home run.

The Monarchs also dropped their first contest on Saturday, an 8-1 loss to the Saskatoon Diamondbacks. Evan Morrison pitched four innings with four strikeouts and had one of the Monarchs’ two hits in the loss.

The U18 Moose squad followed that game up with an 11-5 win over the Moose Jaw Canucks. Trevin Ressler picked up the win on the mound with three strikeouts in his five innings of work. Hleucka led the Monarchs offensively with two hits and three RBIs.

The Monarchs(21-13) had a rematch with Moose Jaw on Sunday and came away with a 16-2 victory. Cade Harrison worked all four innings of the game, striking out two. Hleucka shone offensively again, with three hits and four RBIs.

Knights hit rough weekend

The Medicine Hat Knights 18U team had a tough weekend on the road against the Cranbrook Bandits.

The Knights opened up the weekend with a close 12-11 loss to the Bandits. Dylan Amundson threw three innings of three-strikeout ball before handing the game over to Brody Walter out of the bullpen, who struck out two batters.

In their rematch Saturday, the Knights lost 16-8. JJ Harnett, Mace Carriere, Cole Carlson and Landon Macpherson each pitched for the Knights. Dryden Pidlisny led the way offensively with three hits and a RBI.

The Knights opened Sunday with another close loss to the Bandits, falling 11-10. Cade Moch started the game and pitched two and a third before Carlson and Pidlinsy took over and threw a combined three and two-thirds innings. Pidlinsy again led offensively with three hits and two RBIs.

It was another close battle in the Knights (6-16) and Bandits final matchup of the weekend, with Cranbrook winning 5-4. Parker Hun pitched five and two thirds innings with nine strikeouts. Moch was the offensive leader for the Knights, racking up two hits.
