By James Tubb on June 11, 2022.

Saturday’s Mavericks game in Swift Current was an offensive affair.

Medicine Hat and the Swift Current 57’s combined for 25 runs as the Mavericks fell 15-10.

The two WCBL clubs went back and forth as the Mavericks opened the contest with a four run first inning that Swift Current matched. Medicine Hat scored two runs in the second before Swift Current took the lead with a three run half inning.

The Mavericks were led offensively Saturday by second baseman Kellan Williamson and shortstop Adrian Salazar who each had two hits and three RBIs.

Jack Suhai started on the mound for the Mavericks and only worked an inning and a third with two strikeouts and seven runs allowed. Hunter Cooper took over and pitched three and two thirds innings while striking out three and giving up three runs.

Keon Burkholder, Bryce Libke and Kameron Richards chewed up the last three innings on the mound for the Mavericks.

Medicine Hat took a quick lead in the sixth with three runs plated that was quickly matched by the 57’s who also scored three in the inning and added five more in the seventh and eighth to grow their lead.

The Mavericks(5-6) scored one run in the eighth but were not able to fully comeback on the road. The Mavs don’t have long to stew on the loss as they host the Edmonton Prospects Sunday afternoon at Athletic Park to wrap up a stretch of five games in five days. First pitch Sunday is set for 2:05 p.m.
