Hat High hands out 2021-22 Hawks athletic awards

Medicine Hat High honoured their top athletes Thursday night with end of year athletic awards.

Hawks male athlete of the year was awarded to brothers Dylan and Aayden Callan.

Aayden represented Hat High in football, wrestling and track. He was a league all-star and MVP nominee in football and received a scholarship to Queens University in Ontario for football.

Dylan won gold in ASAA wrestling, was awarded the MVP for the Hawks rugby team, named the SE Alberta league MVP and was recruited to play football BCJFL in Victoria.

Whitney Parker was named Hawks female athlete of the year for her play as a libero/playmaker on the volleyball team and as first team all-star and team MVP in basketball.

Kai Noon received the Brian Drefs award as, “an athlete who does not need to be the true star of the team, but encourages those around him (what the Drefs family believed Brian was to his teams). The Spirit of Sport. Family’s requirements – Preferably Grade 12 and participated in volleyball or basketball.”

Marg Derbyshire received an appreciation award and Taj Ghotra was named the Hawks fan of the year.

Abrielle Watson (basketball) was named the Grisonich Grit Award winner for a female athlete who demonstrates hard work, toughness and playing with an aggressive demeanour.
