Driver Doug Irvine won a photo-finish championship heat run on Sunday to start the 2022 chuckwagon season with a show title at the Grande Prairie Stampede. He next heads to his home-town race in Bonnyville this weekend before the World Professional Chuckwagon Tour visits Medicine Hat from June 16-19. Night four of the Grande Prairie event concluded with three-of-four wagons in the championship dash crossing the finish line within a half-second of each other. Irvine’s time of 1:18.33 nosed out second-place finisher Kirk Sutherland, just five-hundreths of a second back. Chad Fike also crossed in under 1:19 to place third in the $35,000 dash. Driver Kris Molle posted an event-fastest time in Grande Prairie on Sunday night (1:17.49). Bensmiller won the four-date aggregate title with a combined time of 5:11.59. 7
