Knights go 2-2 over weekend

The Medicine Hat K of C Knights 18U squad took two wins from their four weekend contests.

The Knights (5-7) opened the weekend with a 12-9 loss to Vauxhall after a six-run seventh inning early Saturday afternoon. Parker Hunt started the game on the mound and had two strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work. Cole Carlson pitched the last 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. The Knights out-hit Vauxhall 13-9 and were led by Cade Moch and Declan Foshaug, who had three hits each. Landon Macpherson and Pryce Velichko both had multiple hits.

The Knights picked up their first win of the weekend after beating Calgary Strive 12-5 later Saturday. Medicine Hat put up 11 runs in the first four innings en route to the win as Mace Carriere led the way offensively with three hits and a run scored. Macpherson started the game for the Knights and went the full seven innings for the win with four strikeouts.

In their second contest against the Strive, the Knights fell 15-8 early Sunday afternoon. A seven-run seventh inning by the Strive secured the win as the Knights were outhit 16-12. Moch started the game for Medicine Hat and had five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Foshaug took over on the bump and threw 2.1 innings. Hunt and Macpherson led the Knights offensively with two hits and two runs each.

The Knights picked up the win in their final contest of the weekend, beating Vauxhill 6-5 Sunday evening after scoring three runs in the sixth. Macpherson drove in the winning run in the sixth for one of his two RBIs in the win as he led the Knights with two hits and one run scored.

Velichko started the game for Medicine Hat and threw five innings. Wryder Welte picked up the win on the mound with one strikeout over two innings of work.

Monarchs go 1-3

The U18 Moose Monarchs notched one win over four games this weekend.

The Monarchs dropped their first game against Chilliwack 11-3. Evan Morrison led the U18 squad offensively with two hits and a run. Koby Eskestrand started the game and notched three strikeouts in his one inning of work. Hayden Hall struck out three batters in his three innings of relief.

The Monarchs dropped their second contest Saturday to the Elks AA squad 12-3. Cade Harrison started the game and threw 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. Dylan Lefler and Ryler Straarup each threw two innings of relief notching one and two strikeouts, respectively. Jeff Bullock led the Monarchs offensively with two hits.

In their third contest Saturday, the Monarchs fell 10-6 to the Vauxhill Academy Jets Varsity team. Payton Eddy started the game on the mound and went four innings with five strikeouts. Trevin Ressler threw two innings of relief. The Monarchs had eight hits in the loss and Hayden Hill and Kyle Woolridge led the way with two each.

The Monarchs (17-10) picked up the win in their final game of the weekend, a 9-6 victory over the Elks. Ressler had three of his team’s 10 hits in the win with Straarup picking up two hits of his own. Woolridge started for the Monarchs and notched three strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Hall picked up the win on the mound with two innings of work before Ressler closed out the game by getting the final batter to ground out.
