Hat’s Walne wins YYC Cup boxing title

Jacob Walne earned the title of YYC Cup champion over the weekend.

The Medicine Hat Boxing Club athlete defeated Calgary’s Liam Pagaling to win the event, as well as the award for best Junior A boxer.

Fellow Hat pugilist Nate Vossler lost in his 54-kilogram final to Blackrock’s Mykhalo Polishchuk, who was named the top Junior B boxer at the event.

The national tournament featured boxers from all 10 provinces.

Medicine Hat Boxing Club will head south of the border next month for the U.S. National Indigenous Games, which run June 3-5 in Ft. Belnap, Mont.
