Monarchs win final of weekend series

The Moose Monarchs capped off a tough weekend in Calgary with a Sunday afternoon win.

The U18 Monarchs had four games across Saturday and Sunday as the baseball season has started to stretch its legs, and were 0-3 before picking up a win in their final contest.

They opened the weekend with a 14-6 loss to the Junior Dinos after giving up eight runs in the eighth inning Saturday.

The Monarchs scored six runs on three hits in the loss with Jeff Bullock, Trevin Ressler and Dylan Lefler picking up the knocks. Ressler started the game on the mound, throwing six innings with eight strikeouts. Lefler, Payton Eddy, Waylan Watson and Cade Moch entered the game from the bullpen.

In their second game, the Monarchs fell 6-2 to Webber Academy. The Monarchs led once again, but could not hold back Webber, who scored six unanswered runs. Bullock led the Monarchs offensively with three hits and two RBIs. On the mound, Eddy threw 5 1/3 innings with eighth strikeouts.

Sunday morning the Monarchs led 2-0 after the second inning before falling 12-2 to the Calgary Blues. Fischer Haysom, Eddy and Ressler had the lone three hits in the loss. Koby Ekestrand started the game for the Moose, picking up three strikeouts in five innings of work.

In their final game the Monarchs fell behind early before flexing their offensive muscle to pick up a 14-4 win over the Junior Dinos. The Dinos led 2-0 after the first inning before the Monarchs dropped 13 runs on them in just three frames.

Aidan Eckersall, Hayden Hall, Lefler and Bullock all had two hits in the win with the Monarchs totalling 12 total as a team.

Cade Harrison picked up the win on the mound with six strikeouts in five innings of work. Bullock picked up the save with three strikeouts in his one inning of action in the victory.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday when they hit the road for a doubleheader in Oyen.
