Monarchs split weekend of games

The Medicine Hat U18 Moose Monarchs went 2-2 over the weekend in four games against Webber Academy.

The Monarchs opened the weekend Saturday afternoon with an eighth-inning 6-5 loss.

The game was tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth before Webber Academy singled in the winning run. Trevin Ressler started for the Monarchs, throwing six strikeouts over five innings of work. Dylan Lefler threw two innings out of the bullpen with two strikeouts. Evan Morrison led the Monarchs offensively in the loss with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Monarchs picked up the 5-4 win Saturday afternoon against Webber with a two-run seventh inning. Aiden Eckersall singled in the winning run with his second hit of the game. Jeff Bullock, who picked up the win on the mound with six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work, also led the Monarchs offensively with three hits, one RBI and a run.

Koby Ekestrand started the game on the mound, throwing 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

The Monarchs opened their Sunday doubleheader against Webber Academy with a two-run first and six-run third, leading to an 11-1 win.

Ressler had three hits and two RBIs and Bullock had two hits and one RBI in the win. Eight other Monarchs had a hit each as they flexed their offensive muscles.

Morrison was on the mound for the entire game, striking out five over six innings of work for the victory.

The Monarchs gave up two runs early and could not overcome the deficit as they fell 5-4 to close out the weekend.

Graceon Little and Bullock had two hits and an RBI each with Ressler and Ryler Straarup driving in the Monarchs other two runs. Payton Eddy started the game on the bump, with five strikeouts in three innings of work. Cade Harrison and Little had two innings of work each coming out of the bullpen and both struck out three.

The Monarchs (14-3) are back in action Saturday and Sunday for two doubleheaders at Webber Academy.

Knights drop a pair

The Medicine Hat U18 Knights(1-3) dropped both of their games against the Calgary Blues Premier this weekend.

In their first matchup the Knights fell 10-9. Cade Moch was on the mound first, throwing four strikeouts while only allowing one hit in 3 1/3 innings. JJ Harnett came out of the pen and threw 2 1/3 with three strikeouts.

Dylan Amundson led the Knights offensively with two hits.

The Knights kept up the close play in their second match, outhitting the Blues 7-5 but ultimately fell 7-4.

Pryce Velichko and Moch led the Knights with two hits each and Moch had three RBIs.

Parker Krauss took the loss on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings with one strikeout.
