Irvine shows success at Jr. High city championships

Grade 8 and 9 badminton athletes from Irvine were well represented on the podium at the Medicine Hat Junior High Athletic Association Badminton Championships April 12 and 13.

At the Grade 8 level, Irvine were the aggregate champions as Charlie Funk and Marley Howes took home gold in the boys and girls singles division respectively. Nilas Lehr took home bronze in the boys singles, and Izzy Descher won silver in the girls singles.

Ethan Stuber and Lucas Dulle won silver for Irvine in the boys doubles, and their schoolmates Aiden Gibb and Zion Raible took the bronze. Kennedy Anhorn and Addison Clark won girls doubles gold.

In the Grade 8 mixed doubles division, Irvine’s Caylee Wakelan and James Traichel won gold with Blair Reesor and Brolin Vanderspruit took the bronze.

Irvine athletes continued their success at the Grade 9 level, with Katie Kupers winning silver in the girls singles div. Kaylor Carter and Austin Stewart also took silver, competing in the mixed doubles division. Irvine finished in third for aggregate champion at the Grade 9 level.
