jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb It’s time for Hatters to break out their running shoes. Medicine Hat College is hosting its 43rd annual Rattler Run Saturday for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Race director and Rattlers cross country coach Bill Corcoran is excited the event can get up and running again after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. “There’s a lot of excitement in the community I think with the pandemic,” Corcoran said. “There’s a real appetite now for live events. So to be part of this, a special event that’s been going for 43 years, it’s really exciting.” When Corcoran spoke to the News on Tuesday, he said they had 450 people registered and said they’re tracking to hit over 500. According to Corcoran, that will be about the same number they had in 2019. There are still spots open with runners and walkers able to choose from a 3 km, 5 km or 10 km course. Anyone interested can register at rattlerrun.ca for Saturday’s run. He said the 3 km run is set up as a fun run, with the 5 and 10 km runs having more of a competitive element. There’s prize money available for the top three male and female runners in 5 and 10 km races. The 10 km gets the day started at 10:30 a.m., with the 5 km racestarting 10 minutes later and the 3 km run starting at 10:50 a.m. Corcoran said a limited number of 2022 Rattler Run T-shirts are still available and can be ordered for pickup Friday, along with runners’ race bibs from 4-7 p.m. in the Medicine Hat College main foyer. Anyone registered for the Rattler Run is asked to enter through the Cultural Centre and park in the centre, Library, West, or North parking lots on the MHC campus due to road closures for the run. Corcoran said he won’t be taking part in the race himself because he will have enough ‘running around’ that day making sure things run smoothly for everyone else. 11
