Hat teams win big in city hockey year end tournament

Two Medicine Hat U18 hockey teams finished their city league season in the finals last weekend.

The Medicine Hat Jets played in a four-team Tier 2 non-bodychecking Calgary tournament and took home the gold.

They defeated McKnight Mustangs in the final, 7-1.

The Medicine Hat Knights played in the 20th Annual Yelnats Cup, a 16-team Cochrane tournament that ran Thursday-Sunday. They went undefeated in the round robin, defeating the Edmonton NEZ Grizzlies 13-0 with 86 shots on goal, then downing the Cochrane Brewsters 5-4 and taking a 7-1 win from the Simons Valley Storm.

The Knights beat the McKnight Mustangs 6-2 in the semifinal on Saturday. That win was followed by a loss in the gold medal game, 4-3 to the Cochrane Pizztonz. The Knights had 18 shots in the third period but were unable to find the equalizer.
