The Redcliff Skating club put on a rendition of the Wizard of Oz Friday at their end of year event. From left to right, Kendra Slack, Jorden Pettyjohn, Ava Cotton, Daisy Watt, Payton Pettyjohn and Caitlin Watson brought the 1939 film to life in the Redcliffe arena.
The Redcliff Skating Club hit the yellow brick road for their Winter Carnival this weekend. Friday night the club put on a rendition of the Wizard of Oz show for their season end event that featured 35 skaters.
It was a rebuilding year for the club with COIVD restrictions being lifted after taking a break last year. Friday’s performance marked the first time in a long time the 50-year-old skating club put on such a large production, with a cast of characters, props, lighting and backdrop changes.
The 2021-’22 season was the second with Rudi Siegers as the head coach of the skating club. Siegers is a three-time national medalist and 2014 Team Canada Olympian figure skater and a professional ice dance partner for 11 years.
Redcliff skating club president Joanne Fuhrmann said in an email to the News that Siegers was instrumental in choreographing our Wizard of Oz production.
The skating club is done for the summer and plans to start back up again come September.
