SAHA U18 women’s team wins sixth in a row over weekend

South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 women’s prep team ended its February schedule on a six-game winning streak capped off with four wins in three days on the road this weekend.

Forward Kendal Davidson led SAHA offensively over the weekend with four goals and two assists in their four wins. Goaltending also helped propel the women’s team in the four straight wins, as both SAHA netminders Devyn Amundson and Maddy Ferguson only allowed four goals on 81 shots over the entire weekend.

They beat the Okanagan U17 team 3-1 Friday as Ferguson picked up the win with 12 saves. Davidson led the game’s scoring with a goal and an assist in the win, while Alyssa McCasey and Sakura Ito rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

On Saturday the women’s team shut out Pilot Mound Hockey Academy 2-0 in their first game of the day and beat Delta Hockey Academy 6-2 that night.

Amundson picked up the shutout in the first game with 24 saves while Davidson and Sarah Finke scored SAHA’s two goals in the win.

In their victory against Delta, SAHA received scoring from six different skaters while Ferguson grabbed the win by turning aside 22 shots. Chloe Stewart, Tea Pearce, Brogan Carlson, Kiyra Kletzel, Davidson and Ito all scored for SAHA. Their special teams was in full effect against Delta, with two of their six goals coming on the power play, while Ito’s came shorthanded.

Sunday brought a rematch with Okanagan that SAHA captured with a four-goal second period to win 5-1. Amundson had 19 saves for her second win of the weekend while Norah Andronyk opened the scoring in the second period with a shorthanded goal. Stewart, Pearce and Davidson capped off the four-goal second period with one goal each. Kenzie Carson rounded out the scoring for SAHA in the third with her first goal of the season.

The SAHA women’s team (11-13-1) is off the ice until their final regular season game on Mar. 4 when they host the Edge prep team.

The South Alberta Hockey Academy U18 prep men’s team had one game over the weekend, a 6-2 defeat against Edge School.

Elias Eisenbarth had both of SAHA’s goals as Zack Zahara made 48 saves in the loss.

The men’s team (19-8-0-0-1) have a four pack of games on the road starting Thursday.
