Minor Hockey roundup: U13AA Hounds Black beat Golden Suns over weekend

The U13AA Medicine Hat Hounds black won their only game of the weekend as they beat the Golden Suns 3-2 Saturday afternoon. Illya Khazov led the Hounds in scoring with two goals, including a shorthanded marker for the game winner. Rhyder Arnold had the other Hounds black goal and Macinnis Harvey-Zenk turned aside 22 shots to pick up the win in net.

The Hounds Orange went undefeated in both their games this weekend, as they tied the Lethbridge Hurricanes Red 5-5 on Saturday and beat the Hurricanes Red 7-3 on Sunday.

Liam Green led the Hounds Orange offensively in Saturday’s tie with a hat trick. Kian Lang added the other two goals for the Hounds and Bryden Tschritter made 24 saves in the split decision. Sunday’s win had Green and Lang add two more goals each to their weekend totals as Owen Fisher added two goals of his own. Evander Leupold rounded out the scoring with a goal and Caleb Matheson made 40 saves between the pipes to pick up the win.

The Hounds Black (14-11-1) is back in action this weekend on the road Saturday before they host the Okotoks Oilers Black Sunday at the Kinplex. The Hounds Orange (8-17-4) is off the ice until Mar. 6, when they host the Hounds Black at the Kinplex.

U15AAA Boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers dropped their lone contest of the weekend, losing 9-2 to the Okotoks Oilers Sunday. Cash Olson and Kayden Yeaman had SEAC’s goals and Kolter Gans turned aside 43 shots in the loss. The Tigers (14-17-2) are in action Saturday when they host the Sherwood Park United Cycle Flyers at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U15AA Girls

The Southern Express U15 AA squad won their only game of the weekend, beating the Calgary Fire Red 2-1 in overtime Saturday. Julie Barlow tied the game up late for the Express and Keira Grant scored the game winner in the extra frame. Brooklynn Adams made nine saves in net for the Express to pick up the win.

Saturday’s win was the last regular season game for the Southern Express (16-7-2).

U15AA Boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers split their weekend of games, losing to the Golden Suns 5-2 on Friday and winning 7-1 against the Airdrie Lightning Sunday.

Ethan Hall and Randen Collier had the Tigers lone goals in Friday’s loss. Collier carried the offence Sunday with three goals and two assists. Austin Murphy and Ty Wasyluk both had a goal and two assists and Baker Thompson and Kingston Chisholm rounded out the scoring with one each.

Kayne Wright picked up the win Sunday in net after making 35 saves. Wright and Parker McLaughlin split goaltending duties in Friday’s loss and made a combined 15 saves.

The Tigers (18-9-4) are in action Sunday when they host the Red Deer Steel Kings at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U15 A Girls

Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls hockey team got their playoffs started this weekend with two games.

Saturday they tied Stettler 4-4 and received goals from four different girls. Jayden Dennison, Ryley Sanders, Kennedy Kleinknecht and Darby Amundson had Medicine Hat’s offense and Rhen Hall made 46 saves in the tie.

Medicine Hat had a rematch with Stettler Sunday but those scores were not available.

U16AA Boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA squad won both of their weekend contests, beating Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc 5-4 Friday and 4-3 against the Red Deer TBS Hockey Saturday.

Jaxson Snortland led the Hounds offensively with three goals, while Hayden Smith had a goal and an assist and Wyatt Bower rounded out the scoring with one goal. Drew Thompson and Parker Forrest had two assists and Jerzy Walter made 33 saves in the win.

Kash Kukurudza and Blake Dosenberger led the Hounds in Saturday’s win with a goal and an assist each. Jack Henry and Smith rounded out the scoring with one goal each, while Bower added two assists. Merrick Kurpjuweit had 21 saves in the win.

The Hounds (8-22-1) are off the ice until Mar. 5, when they host the Wheatland Raiders.

U18AA Boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad split their weekend of games losing 3-2 to the Wheatland Chiefs Friday and winning 7-3 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday.

Joshua Drefs led the Hounds offensively for the weekend, with one goal and an assist in Friday’s loss and two goals and an assist in Saturday’s win.

Kyle Woolridge had the other Hounds goal Friday night, before adding a goal and two assists Saturday.

Caleb Garrecht also had a goal and two assists Saturday, Jacob Smith had a goal and an assist as Braden Patey and Brady Mahar rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

Kaiden Morin made 32 saves in Friday’s loss and Tyler Wakelam turned aside 11 shots in Saturday’s win.

The Hounds (17-8-7) host the Wheatland Chiefs Saturday at the Kinplex for their lone weekend game.
