The Medicine Hat Cubs have set themselves up for a quick second round of playoffs.

Coming off of a 4-2 win in Coaldale Saturday and an 8-1 beatdown at the Kinplex on Sunday, the Cubs have taken a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Copperheads. The Cubs head to Coaldale on Wednesday with a chance to complete the sweep.

They have scored the first goal in all three wins this series, setting the tone against Coaldale.

Asked about scoring that first goal and how important it is, Cubs head coach Randy Wong said it helps keep a vulnerable team down.

“When I look at their team, they’re struggling a bit, have some injuries and are banged up, they’re vulnerable,” Wong said. “I think when you’ve got a team vulnerable you’ve got to make sure you put some jump at them. So you instil that it’s not going to happen today.”

Another key for the Cubs has been the goaltending of Dawsen Savage. The 21-year-old has been close to perfect against Coaldale, sporting a 1.67 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.

He said if the Cubs continue to work as hard as they have in their first three games, they’ll take game four.
