Rattlers lock in multiple signings

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on February 18, 2022.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers put pen to paper with three athletes Thursday.

The Rattlers women’s basketball team signed Hailey Hoffart from Medicine Hat for the 2022-23 season. Hoffart attends Monsignor McCoy High School and said in a Rattlers Instagram post Thursday she is excited to play for her home college.

“…to get to play at home again is an amazing experience,” Hoffart said. “The emphasis on hard work the team has and the overall competitive spirit and attitude the team has is admirable. I’m excited to play in an environment where these attributes are so highly respected.”

Hoffart will study education while playing at the college.

Rattlers women’s basketball coach Clayton Nielsen said he’s seen what kind of player Hoffart is since her Grade 10 year.

“Over that time, she has shown her work ethic and drive to become a better basketball player,” Nielsen said. “We are excited to have another local athlete choose our program as she brings size, high work ethic and coachability to our program.”

The Rattlers men’s volleyball team announced the signings of Landon Reiniger from J.R. Robson High School and Owen Clarke from E.H. Walter School.

Reiniger will be taking taking business administration, sports management at the college and said he likes Medicine Hat. Men’s volleyball coach Tyler Olson said Reiniger brings the necessary skill level to be a middle blocker in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

Clarke will also be taking business administration and spoke highly of Medicine Hat.

“It seems like a great place to be, the people are super friendly and Medicine Hat seems like a great city,” Clarke said.

Olson said the Rattlers are looking forward to helping Clarke reach his “unlimited potential.”
