Minor Hockey Roundup: U16 AAA Tigers win fourth in a row

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers extended their winning streak to four games this weekend with a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge headwater Hurricanes on Friday and a 5-3 victory over the Airdrie/Cochrane Avalanche on Sunday.

Jesse Klimosko led Friday’s offence with a two-goal performance, while Makhi Carriere, Will Bell and Kellin Hodgson rounded out the scoring and Kaige Schafer stopped 28 shots in net.

Klimosko and Carriere each added a goal and an assist in Sunday’s win, while Heath Geekie, Deegen Bert and Noah Derouin added individual tallies. Torin Thickson and Chance Loke both had two assists, while Schafer stopped 31 shots in goal.

The Tigers (17-14-0) are on the road Saturday to face the Calgary Northstars.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA boys hockey team left the ice without surrendering a loss this weekend, tying the Okotoks Oilers 2-2 on Friday then defeating the CBHA Rangers 3-2 on Sunday.

Joshua Drefs had a goal and an assist in Friday’s tie, while Ty Flaig opened the scoring and Kaiden Morin stopped 38 shots in goal.

Zach Hauck led Sunday’s offence with a goal and an assist, while Caleb Garrecht and Brennin Wereley added individual markers. Tyler Wakelam picked up the win with a 30-save performance.

The Hounds (16-7-7) host the Wheatland Chiefs on Friday night at the Kinplex.

U16 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA hockey team went 1-2 over the weekend, falling 3-0 to CNHA Gold on Friday before defeating CNHA Black 6-4 on Saturday, then falling 8-4 to the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc on Sunday.

Jaxson Snortland, Madden Kelly and Hayden Smith all had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win. Treyson Girletz, Kohen McClain and Jack Henry rounded out the scoring and Jerzy Walter stopped 19 shots for the win.

Henry added two goals Sunday, while Snortland had a goal and an assist, Hayden Smith added two helpers and Kelly tacked on a goal.

Merrick Kurpjuweit stopped 46 shots Sunday and 23 in Friday’s loss.

The Hounds (6-22-1) host the Havoc on Friday at the Big Marble Go Centre.

U15 AAA boys

SEAC’s U15 AAA Tigers split the weekend with a 4-3 overtime win against the Airdrie Xtreme Saturday and a 6-5 loss to the Calgary Bisons on Sunday.

Ty Hynes led Friday’s offence with two goals, including the overtime winner, while Cash Olson had a goal and an assist and Kayden Yeaman added two helpers. Slade McFadzen rounded out the scoring and Kolter Gans stopped 48 shots to earn the victory.

Yeaman had a hat trick on Sunday, with Joey Clark adding three assists and Hudson Gainer setting up two.

Josiah Jackson had a goal and an assist and Colson Wereley rounded out the scoring.

Adler Ames was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots, then Gans stopped 27 in relief.

The Tigers (14-16-2) will be in Okotoks on Sunday to face the Oilers.

U15 AA girls

The Southern Express U15 AA girls hockey team battled back into the win column with a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Fire White on Saturday.

Jayda Becker led the Southern offence with a goal and an assist, while Keira Grant, Julie Bowen and Brooklyn Many Horses each added individual tallies in the win.

Taya Christie collected the victory with a 27-save outing.

The Express (15-7-2) will be in Calgary on Saturday to face the Fire Red.

U15 AA boys

SEAC’s U15 AA Tigers went 0-1-1 over the weekend with a 5-2 loss to the Wheatland Warriors on Friday and a 3-3 tie with the Olds Grizzlies on Saturday.

Ethan Hall scored twice Saturday, while Leighton Verishine added one of his own to secure the tie. Parker McLaughlin stopped 46 shots.

The Tigers (17-8-4) host the Taber Golden Suns on Friday night at Co-op Place.

U15 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls hockey team swept Red Deer in a two-game set this weekend, 5-4 Friday and 4-3 Saturday.

Alyssa Guy led Friday’s offence with a goal and two assists, while Jayden Dennison had one of each, and Kennedy Kleinknecht, Parvati Broesky and goaltender Rehn Hall added individual markers.

Hall also stopped 39 shots for the win.

Darby Amundson led Saturday’s scoring with two goals, while Dennison and Renee Pillibeit added one each, and Hall stopped 30 shots in goal.

U13 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds Orange U13 AA squad battled out a 5-4 win against the Foothills Bisons on Saturday.

Rhyder Arnold led the offence with two goals, while Everett Ward had two assists. Madden Wright, Carter Gilchrist and Nixon Davis added individual tallies and Marshall Turner stopped 23 shots for the win.

The Hounds Orange were also in action over the weekend, falling 12-3 to the Wheatland Braves on Saturday and 7-3 to the Okotoks Oilers Green on Sunday.

Brogan Verishine scored twice Saturday, while Liam Green had two assists and Kian Lang rounded out the scoring.

Chase Droeske had two goals on Sunday, with Gavin Perry adding another. Caleb Matheson stopped 33 shots between the pipes.

The Hounds Orange (7-17-3) host the Lethbridge Hurricanes Red on Saturday evening at the Kinplex.

The Hounds Black (13-11-1) are host the Taber Golden Suns on Saturday afternoon at the Kinplex.

U13 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls hockey team fell 4-3 to Red Deer on Saturday.

Teagan Torgerson had two assists in the loss, while Kendall Smith, Aviana Velichko and Hollis Hutchinson all scored.

Jordan Karasek stopped 30 shots in net.

Medicine Hat was also in action on Sunday against Okotoks, but statistics were unavailable.
