Medicine Hat Boxing Club defended its home canvas as hosts of the provincial championships this weekend at HomeStay Inn and Suites.
Jacob Walne defeated Edmonton’s George Owens before falling in Sunday’s final against Edmonton’s R.J. Ford in the 42-kilogram junior A division. Fellow Hatter Kade Linford defeated Calgary’s Tony Costanza but also lost in a Sunday final to David Cowan, settling for silver in the 48-kilogram junior A division. MHBC’s Nate Vossler defeated Edmonton’s Troy Kemick in the 48-kilogram junior C gold medal match, and also went on to win Best Boxer in his category. MHBC’s Sam Schick lost to Lacombe’s Jacob Boomer, but defeated Calgary’s Israel Monge to finish with silver in the 57-kilogram open youth division.
Medicine Hat’s Mitch Heller fell to Edmonton’s Maxwell Delorme in the senior 80-kilogram division for a silver-medal finish.
