Minor Hockey Round-up: U13AA Hounds Orange drop close contest Saturday

The Medicine Hat Hounds Orange U13 AA hockey team dropped a 4-2 contest to the Central Alberta Selects on Saturday at the Kinplex.

Liam Green opened the scoring and Chase Droeske scored in the third to knot up a 2-2 game, but the Selects broke the tie and added an empty-netter to skate away with the victory.

Caleb Matheson stopped 23 shots in the loss.

The Hat Hounds Black had a better outcome Saturday with a 6-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes Red. Scoring statistics were not available by press time.

The Hounds Orange (7-15-3) host the Wheatland Braves on Saturday at the Big Marble Go Centre, while the Hounds Black (11-11-1) will be on the road to face the Foothills Bisons.

U13 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls hockey team rebounded from a 2-1 loss to West Central on Saturday with a 10-2 win over the Prairie Thunder on Sunday.

Hollis Hutchinson netted Medicine Hat’s only goal Saturday, while Katie Hilton stopped 29 shots in the loss.

Teagan Torgerson led Sunday’s offence with a hat trick and three assists, while Sydney Broesky had two goals and an assist. Hutchinson and Kendall Smith both had a goal and two helpers, while Morgan Gage had one of each, Kody Schreiner had two assists. Alyna Vossler and Brooke Watts rounded out the scoring, with Jordan Karasek collecting the win in goal.

Medicine Hat (8-6-1) will be in Ralston on Saturday to face Red Deer.

U15 AAA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers dropped back-to-back games over the weekend, 4-2 to the St. Albert Sabres on Saturday and 4-3 to the Lloydminster Bobcats on Sunday.

Hudson Gainer and Colby Sullivan scored for SEAC on Saturday, with Adler Ames stopping 31 between the pipes in the loss.

Josiah Jackson set up two goals Sunday, while Cash Olson, Tate Bowal and Kayden Yeaman all had individual goals. Kolter Gans was pulled after allowing four goals – all in the second – on 21 shots. Ames stopped 11 in relief.

SEAC (13-15-2) will host the Airdrie Xtreme on Saturday at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.

U15 AA girls

The Southern Express U15 AA squad split the weekend with a 4-3 overtime win over the Olds Grizzlies on Saturday and a 4-3 regulation loss to the Calgary Fire White on Sunday.

Jayda Becker led Saturday’s offence with two goals – including the overtime winner – and an assist. Julie Barlow had two assists, while Keyana Bert and Jessica Hudson rounded out the scoring and Taya Christie stopped 28 shots for the win.

Barlow had two goals Sunday, while Marley Howes added a goal and an assist.

Brooklynn Adams was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 15 shots. Christie stopped nine in relief.

The Southern Express (14-7-2) will be at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre on Saturday for a rematch with Calgary.

U15 AA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers picked up a 5-2 win over the Red Deer Steel Kings on Saturday.

Kian Green and Owen Gustafson led the offence with a goal and two assists each, while Parker Kienzle and Randen Collier each set up a pair. Leighton Verishine, Davin Torgerson and Kingston Chisholm rounded out the scoring.

Kayne Wright stopped 24 shots for the win.

The Tigers were also in action Sunday, however a score was not available by press time.

U15 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls hockey team dropped a pair over the weekend, 5-1 to Red Deer on Saturday and 5-2 to Okotoks on Sunday.

Parvati Broesky scored Medicine Hat’s lone goal Saturday, while Rehn Hall stopped 17 shots in net.

Kennedy Kleinknecht led the offence Sunday with a goal and an assist, while Jayden Dennison rounded out the scoring and Hall stopped 10.

Medicine Hat (4-11-0) will face Red Deer on the road Friday.

U16 AAA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers defeated the Okotoks Oilers 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

Makhi Carriere had two goals – including the overtime winner – while Kellin Hodgson had two assists and Deegan Bert rounded out the scoring.

Kaige Schafer stopped 36 shots for the win.

The Tigers (15-14-0) will host the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes on Friday at the Hockey Hounds.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad shook off Friday’s 1-0 loss to CRAA Blue and rallied to a 5-2 win over the Bow Valley Timberwolves on Sunday.

Kyle Woolridge led Sunday’s offence with a pair of goals, while Josh Drefs had a goal and two assists. Gavin Smith had a goal and an assist, Caleb Garrecht added two helpers and Joseph Hackett rounded out the scoring.

Tyler Wakelam picked up Sunday’s win with a 28-save performance.

Kaiden Morin did all he could Friday, stopping 38 shots in the narrow loss.

The Hounds (15-7-6) will host the Okotoks Oilers on Friday at the Kinplex.
