Ringette Roundup: Goal Diggers sweep weekend in Calgary

The U16 Goal Diggers ringette team was in Calgary on Saturday and won both of their league games against the Bowview Aftershock.

The Goal Diggers took game one by the score of 7-1. Sophie Kerr led the way offensively with one goal and three assists. The rest of their offence came from Karly Stennick, Avery Weisgerber, Bella Heinrichs, Jordan Weisgerber Savannah Savoy and Kasey Martin, who each had a goal in the win.

Medicine Hat took game two against Bow View 11-6 despite icing only 10 players.

Kyree Stern-Rebmann was between the pipes for both wins.

After sweeping their weekend, the Goal Diggers run their record to 11-2-1 for the season. Next action for them is this weekend as they travel to Regina for the Annual Queen City Classic.

U14

The Medicine Hat U14 Impact travelled to Calgary and split their two-game series over the weekend.

The Impact hit a hot goalie and lost to the North West Adrenaline 4-2. Jordy Provost and Ava Allchurch were the Impact’s goal scorers and Leighton Wright, Maren Berstad and Ryleigh Jackiw had the assists.

The Impact came out strong in their second game and beat the South Calgary Karma 8-2.

Jordy Provost led the Impact’s offence with three goals, with Ryleigh Jackiw, Berstad, Ella Seale, Sophia Stock and Erika Want rounding out the scoring with a goal a piece.

Margot Kerr had two helpers in the win with Sarah Laturnas, Wright, Ryleigh Jackiw, Kensie Provost and Ella Seale added an assist each.

Sadie Berstad helped the Impact pull away in the second half of the game, as it was tied 1-1 at the half.

The Impact head to Regina this upcoming weekend for the Jim Benning Invitational Tournament.

U19

A shortened Gators team played three games in Calgary this past weekend.

The Gators opened the weekend with a 5-2 win against the Bowview Aces. Ryan Sweet led the offence with one goal and four assists, with Amanda Robinson adding three goals and Bree Becker notching one herself in the win.

They fell to the Calgary NW Titans in game two by the score of 11-5. The Gators goals in the loss came from Robinson, Preslee Starner, Jaelyn Siewert, Sydney Anderson and Grace Carrier.

Medicine Hat finished the weekend in Calgary off with a close 6-5 loss to Sherwood Park.

Siewert led the offence with two goals. Kylie Kallenberger, Starner and Robinson rounded out their scoring with a goal each.

Rheagyn Heinrichs was in net for all three games.

The Gators next action is the playoffs, as their first two games of provincial play-downs come Feb. 12 at Hussar Arena.
