The Medicine Hat Hounds Orange U13 AA boys hockey team rallied to back-to-back wins over the weekend, defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes Red 7-5 on Friday and the Chestermere Lakers 6-3 on Saturday.
Brogan Verishine led the Hounds on both days, notching two goals and an assist in Friday’s win, then adding a goal and two more helpers on Saturday.
Liam Green had two goals and an assist Friday, while Myla Motz added a goal and two assists, and Zander Kitching and Lucas Fisher rounded out the scoring.
Caleb Matheson stopped 32 shots for Friday’s win, then 26 more on Saturday.
Green added two more goals Saturday, while Gibson Studer had two helpers. Chase Murphy, Owen Fisher and Lucas Fisher rounded out the scoring.
The Hounds Black dropped their lone contest of the weekend, 5-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes White.
George Maser and Rhyder Arnold scored for Black, while Marshall Turner and Macinnis Harvey-Zenk shared the crease with 13 and 11 saves each, respectively.
The Hounds Black (11-10-1) will be back on the ice Saturday to host Red Deer Motors at the Hockey Hounds, while Orange (7-14-3) is off until Feb. 5, when they host the Central Alberta Selects at the Kinplex.
U15 AAA boys
South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers managed to exit the weekend with a point after falling 7-3 to the Calgary Bisons Saturday then dropping a 3-2 overtime contest to the Calgary Royals on Sunday.
Josiah Jackson had two helpers Sunday, while Theron Bensler, Ty Hynes and Joey Clark all scored for SEAC.
Adler Ames stopped 31 shots in the loss.
Hudson Gainer netted both of SEAC’s goals in Sunday’s loss, while Kolter Gans stopped 44 shots in net.
The Tigers (9-13-2) return to the ice Friday night to host the Calgary Flames at the Hockey Hounds.
U15 AA girls
The Southern Express U15 AA squad dropped a pair to the Red Deer Chiefs over the weekend, 5-2 on Saturday and 5-0 Sunday.
Kiera Grant scored both Express goals Saturday, while Brooklyn Adams stopped 15 shots Saturday, then Taya Christie turned aside 40 in Sunday’s loss.
The Southern Express (11-6-2) will be back on the ice Saturday to face the Rocky Mountain Raiders.
U15 AA boys
South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers swept their weekend on the ice with a 3-2 win over the Okotoks Oilers Friday and a 9-4 win over the Foothills Bisons on Saturday.
Kingston Chisholm scored twice Friday, while Leighton Verishine had two assists and Randen Collier rounded out the scoring.
Kayne Wright stopped 37 shots to secure the win.
Verishine led Saturday’s offence with two goals and an assist, while Parker Kienzle had three assists and Davin Torgerson had two goals. Jack Hackett and Ty Wasyluk each had a goal and an assist, while Baker Thompson had two helpers and Ethan Hall, Brennan Finke and Collier finished off the scoring.
Parker McLaughlin stopped 22 shots in the win.
The Tigers (15-7-3) are back in action on Feb. 5 in Red Deer against the Steel Kings.
U15 A girls
Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls hockey team settled for a pair of losses over the weekend, 3-2 to Lethbridge on Saturday and 5-2 to Okotoks on Sunday.
Jayden Dennison and Savanna Donnelly scored in Saturday’s loss, while Rehn Hall stopped 38 shots.
Kapri Coston had a goal and an assist Sunday, while Alyssa Guy rounded out the scoring and Hall stopped 44 shots.
Medicine Hat (4-9-0) returns to the ice Feb. 5 against Red Deer.
U16 AAA boys
South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers split their weekend with a 4-2 win over the Calgary Bulls on Saturday and a 6-1 loss to the Calgary Royals on Sunday.
Kellin Hodgson, Jesse Klimosko, Will Bell and Mason Eggen all scored for SEAC in Saturday’s win, while Kaige Schafer turned away 39 pucks in goal.
Heath Geekie scored SEAC’s lone goal on Sunday, while Schafer stopped 31 shots in the loss.
The Tigers (13-13-0) are back in action Saturday when they host the Calgary Flames at the Hockey Hounds.
U16 AA boys
The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA squad dropped a pair of tough games over the weekend, 11-0 to the Okotoks Oilers Saturday and 9-2 to Red Deer TBS Sunday.
Merrick Kurpjuweit managed to stop 58 shots in Saturday’s loss.
Jerzy Walter stopped 34 shots Sunday, while Madden Kelly and Jack Henry both scored in the setback.
The Hounds (5-20-1) are off until Feb. 11, when they host CNHA Gold at Co-op Place.
U18 AA boys
The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad swept the Taber Golden Suns in back-to-back games over the weekend, 6-1 Friday in Taber and 9-1 Saturday in Medicine Hat.
Brady Maher led the Hounds through the weekend with two goals Friday, then a hat trick with two assists on Saturday.
Caleb Garrecht notched two assists Friday, while Joshua Drefs, Quin Lacher, Kyle Woolridge and Jevonte Freeman added individual tallies.
Woolridge had two goals and an assist on Saturday, while Hayden King and Zach Hauck both had three assists. Jackson Bowal had two goals, Brayden Patey had one of each and Garrecht rounded out the scoring. Drefs and Ty Flaig both finished Saturday’s win with two assists.
Kaiden Morin stopped 26 shots for Friday’s win, then Tyler Wakelam turned away 20 on Saturday.
The Hounds (14-5-6) return to action on the road Sunday against CNHA Gold.
