The Medicine Hat Cubs bounced back from an overtime loss Sunday and beat Coaldale 4-0 Thursday night. With the win, the Cubs sit second in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s South Division with a 23-6-3 record – or 49 points to Coaldale’s 39. Colby Friedrich opened the scoring for the Cubs over halfway though the first period with his 23rd of the season. They outshot Coaldale 14-12 in the frame before exploding in the second. Connor Douglas and Ethan Machan scored in the second period to extend the lead to 3-0 in a game capped off with a shorthanded Connor Miller goal in the third for the 4-0 win. Cubs netminder Dawsen Savage turned aside all 33 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season and his ninth win of the campaign. The Cubs are back in action Sunday as they host the HJHL’s best Okotoks Bisons. That game gets underway at 2:45 p.m. 7
