Minor hockey roundup: U16 AAA Tigers split weekend at home

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers split their weekend at home with a 3-1 win over the Red Deer North Stars Saturday and a 5-0 loss to the AC Avalanche on Sunday.

Julian Laqua, Deegan Bart and Makhi Carriere all scored for the Tigers Saturday with Noah Derouin picking up two assists in the win. Kaige Schafer was between the pipes for SEAC and turned aside 27 shots in the victory.

The Tigers (12-12-0) are back in action Saturday in Calgary to take on the Bulls before hosting the Calgary Royals Sunday at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad also split their weekend as they lost 2-1 to the West Central Tigers on Saturday and won 7-3 over the Olds Grizzlys on Sunday.

Joshua Drefs had the Hounds lone goal in Saturday’s loss with Ty Flaig picking up the only assist. Kaiden Morin turned aside 33 shots in the loss.

Flaig led the Hounds in Sunday’s win with three goals. Jackson Bowal had a goal and an assist and Braden Patey, Zach Hauck and Hayden King rounded out the Hounds scoring with one goal each.

Tyler Wakelam picked up the win in net as he stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced.

The Hounds (12-5-6) are at home Saturday against the Golden Suns.

U16 AA boys

The U16 AA SEAC Tigers split their weekend at home with a 2-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday night and a 6-5 loss Saturday against the West Central Panthers.

Kohen McClain and Jack Henry had a goal each in the win with Jaxson Snortland picking up two assists. Merrick Kurpjuweit had 17 saves for the win.

Rhys Schroeder had two goals and one assist in Saturday’s loss. Henry added a goal and an assist and Hayden Smith and Gavin Hagnes rounded out the Hounds scoring with one goal each. Parker Forrest had two assists as well.

Jerzy Walter made 23 saves.

The Tigers (13-7-3) are in Okotoks Saturday and Red Deer on Sunday.

U15 AAA boys

The U15 AAA SEAC Tigers (9-11-2) were not in action this weekend but head to Calgary Saturday to take on the Bisons.

U15 AA boys

The SEAC U15 AA Tigers split their weekend on the road as they lost 3-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday night and won 2-1 against the Foothills Bison on Saturday.

Austin Murphy and Easton Kurpjuweit had the Tigers goals and Kayne Wright stopped 26 shots in Friday’s loss.

Parker Kienzle and Baker Thompson scored for SEAC and Parker McLaughlin stopped 48 shots in Saturday’s win.

The Tigers (13-7-3) are home Friday night against the Okotoks Oilers.

U15 AA girls

The Southern Express U15 AA team pulled out the 3-2 win in a close battle with the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday.

Jayda Becker and Keyana Berthad a goal and an assist each and Beth Burton rounded out the scoring for the Express.

Taya Christie stopped 33 shots for the win.

The Express (11-4-2) will be on the road Saturday to take on the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs.

U13 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds Black U13 AA squad went 1-1 over the weekend with a 10-7 loss against the Olds Grizzly’s Saturday and a 5-4 win over the Airdrie Lightning Sunday.

Madden Wright led the Hounds offensively in Saturday’s loss with three goals and two assists. Rhyder Arnold had two goals and one assist, Vann Boiteau had a goal and an assist and Trevin Ibach rounded out the Hounds scoring with one.

Marshall Turner stopped 26 shots in the loss.

Wright and Arnold both had a goal and two assists in the Hounds win Sunday with Boiteau, Caleb Whyte-Duheme and Kane Bishop adding a goal each to round out the scoring.

Turner stopped 41 shots to pick up the win.

The Hounds Black (11-9-1) are in Lethbridge Sunday to face the Hurricanes White.

The Hounds Orange squad was also in action this weekend losing 1-0 to the Bow Valley Timberwolves Saturday and 1-0 to the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

The Hounds Orange (5-14-3) are in Lethbridge Friday to take on the Hurricanes Red.

U13 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls squad dropped both of their weekend games as they had a 2-0 loss Friday to Picture Butte Friday and a 10-4 loss to Airdrie Sunday.

Jordan Karasek stopped 27 of the shots she faced in Friday’s loss.

Teagen Torgerson led Sunday’s offence with a hat trick, while Morgan Gage had a goal and an assist to round out the scoring.

Katie Hilton stopped 22 of the shots she faced in the loss.

Medicine Hat (5-5-1) isn’t in action again until Jan.29 when they face West Central U13 A.
