Rattlers women’s basketball makes signing

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on January 7, 2022.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team has made its first signing for the 2022-’23 season.

The Rattlers announced via Instagram Thursday they have signed Bryanne Jones from W.R. Myers High School in Taber.

The Wrentham product shared in the post all of the reasons she chose to sign with the Rattlers for the upcoming Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.

“The beautiful city and the good school environment, as well as how welcoming the coaches and players are” were reasons to attend the college, Jones said.

She will be taking the college’s environmental reclamation technician program.

Rattlers women’s basketball coach Clayton Nielsen said in the post that Jones has potential and the Rattlers are looking forward to her progress with MHC.

“Bryanne came to our Christmas camp this December. We really liked her athleticism and work ethic,” Nielsen said. “Our team will be very young and getting quick, strong and athletic players will be key and Bryanne fits the mold. She has lots of potential and we are looking forward to her progress over the next couple years.”

The Rattlers women’s basketball team last played on Dec. 4., when they beat St. Mary’s University 66-64 in the final minute of play. That win was their final game before they hit the Holiday break with a 2-4 record in the unofficial first half of the season.

Their first game of 2022 is in the Gas City on Jan. 14., when they take on Ambrose University for the first time this season. That game is at the Big Marble Go Centre and tips off at 8 p.m.
