Minor Hockey Roundup: U15 SEAC Tigers struggle over weekend

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers dropped two straight over the weekend, 4-2 to the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday and 3-2 to the NWCAA Flames on Sunday.

Josiah Jackson and Kieran Wyrostok scored SEAC’s goals Saturday, while Kolter Gans stopped 29 in net.

Davin Torgerson and Colson Wereley both scored Sunday, while Adler Ames turned away 39 shots in the loss.

SEAC (9-9-2) returns to action Jan. 8 against the Airdrie Xtreme.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad fell 4-2 to the Wheatland Chiefs on Sunday after tying the Lethbridge Hurricanes 2-2 on Friday.

Joshua Drefs and Braden Patey scored for Medicine Hat in Sunday’s loss, while Zach Hauck and Jevonte Freeman netted Medicine Hat’s tallies on Friday.

The Hounds (10-4-6) will be back in action on Jan. 8 to host the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Kinplex.

U16 AAA boys

South East Athletic Club’s U16 AAA Tigers split their weekend on the ice with a 2-1 win over the Knights of Columbus Centennials on Saturday and a 4-0 loss to the Sherwood Park Squires on Sunday.

Noah Derouin had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win, while Makhi Carriere netted one to round out the scoring and Keegan Stenger stopped 17 shots.

Stenger returned to the crease Sunday and turned away 38 in the shutout loss.

The Tigers (10-11-0) return to the ice on Jan. 8 to face the Calgary Northstars.

U16 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16 AA team dropped a pair on the road this weekend, 7-3 to CRAA Blue on Friday and 5-2 to the Wheatland Raiders on Saturday.

Drew Thompson scored twice Friday, while Treyson Girletz one of his own.

Girletz and Everett Liefso hit the net in Saturday’s setback, while Merrick Kurpjuweit turned away 44 shots in goal.

The Hounds (4-16-1) return to the ice on Jan. 9 to face the West Central Panthers on the road.

U15 AAA girls

The Southern Express U15 AAA squad extended its winning streak to five games with a 3-2 overtime win over the St. Albert Chargers on Saturday and a 5-0 victory over the Edmonton Pandas on Sunday.

Julie Barlow had an assist and scored the overtime winner, while Marley Howes had a goal and two assists and Jayda Becker had one each. Taya Christie stopped 22 shots.

Barlow added another goal and two more assists Sunday, while Keira Grant had one of each. Beth Burton, Cambelle Gross and Becker each added individual tallies, while Christie stopped 17 shots to earn the shutout.

The Southern Express (9-4-2) return to action on Jan. 8 against Calgary Fire Red.

U15 AA boys

The South East Athletic Club Tigers U15 AA team closed out the 2021 portion of their season with a 3-1 win over the Golden Suns on Friday in Taber.

Davin Torgerson, Leighton Verishine and Austin Murphy scored for SEAC in the victory, while Parker McLaughlin stopped 32 shots in net.

The Tigers (10-5-3) return Jan. 8 to host the Central Alberta Selects at the Kinplex.

U15 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls hockey team dropped a 6-4 battle with Airdrie on Friday in Redcliff.

Alyssa Guy led the Hat offence with a goal and two assists, while Ryley Sanders had one of each. Jayden Dennison and Parvati Broesky rounded out the scoring and Rehn Hall stopped 41 shots between the pipes.

Medicine Hat (2-6-0) returns Jan. 8 to face Stettler in Ralston.

U13 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds Black and the Hounds Orange both dropped a pair of games on the road this weekend.

The Hounds Black fell 7-5 to the Central Alberta Selects on Saturday and 11-4 to Red Deer Parkland on Sunday, while Orange lost 9-3 to Red Deer Motors Saturday and 6-0 to the West Central Tigers on Sunday.

Ilya Khazov scored twice for the Hounds Black in Saturday’s loss, while Logan Neuls had a goal and assist. Madden Wright and Rhyder Arnold rounded out the scoring and MacInnis Harvey-Zenk stopped 21 shots in goal.

Arnold added two more on Sunday, while Ethan Chenard and Nixon Davis had individual tallies.

Borgan Verishine led the Orange offence with a pair of goals, while Evander Leupold netted a goal and added an assist.

Connor Aldag stopped 22 shots for Orange in Sunday’s shutout loss.

The Hounds Black (10-8-0) will be back in action on Jan. 7 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, while Hounds Orange (4-11-3) return Jan. 8 to host the Foothills Bisons.

U13 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls hockey team bounced back from a 5-3 loss to Picture Butte on Saturday with a 2-2 tie against Cochrane on Sunday.

Hollis Hutchinson scored twice Saturday and Brooke Watts added one of her own, while Jordan Karasek stopped 24 shots in the loss.

Teagan Torgerson and Jayde Hynes both scored in Sunday’s tie, while Katie Hilton turned away 20 shots.

Medicine Hat (4-2-1) will be back to host the Prairie Thunder at the Redcliff Rec-Tangle on Jan. 7.
