Minor hockey roundup: Express sweep weekend

The Southern Express U15 AA hockey team battled out a pair of gritty victories over the weekend, 2-1 in overtime against the Calgary Fire White Friday and 3-0 over the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs on Sunday.

Brookyln Many Grey Horses, Traeh Hall and Keira Grant all scored in Sunday’s win, while MaySon Mattersdorf had two assists and Brooklynn Adams stopped 18 shots for the shutout.

Grant also netted Friday’s overtime winner, while Many Grey Horses hit the net in the third to force an extra period.

Taya Christie stopped 19 shots for the win.

The victories put the Express at 4-4-2 on the Alberta Female Hockey League season. They return to the ice Friday to face the Rocky Mountain Raiders (6-2-1) on the road.

U15 A female

Medicine Hat’s U15 A girls team was shut out 6-0 by Lethbridge on Saturday, dropping them to 0-3-0 on the Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League season.

Rehn Hall stopped 31 shots in the loss.

U13 female

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls squad collected a 6-2 win over Okotoks Saturday at Co-op Place to sit at 5-0-1 on the RMFHL season.

Morgan Gage, Teagan Torgerson and Kody Schriener all scored twice in the win, while Hollis Hutchinson had two assists and Jordan Karasek stopped 19 shots in goal.

Medicine Hat’s U13 B squad fell 14-1 to Lethbridge White Saturday and 5-1 to Lethbridge Navy Sunday, putting them at 1-4-0 on the year.

Madison Hurlbut scored both of Medicine Hat’s goals over the weekend.

U18 AAA male

South East Athletic Club’s U18 AAA Tigers fell 5-0 to the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes on Sunday.

Kaige Schafer stopped 36 shots in the loss, dropping SEAC to 4-10-0 on the Alberta Elite Hockey League season.

The Tigers hit the road Thursday to face the Lloydminster R’ohan Bobcats (7-6-0).

U18 AA male

The Medicine Hat U18 AA Hounds U18 AA dropped a 7-6 barnburner to the Taber Golden Suns on Sunday at the Kinplex.

Caleb Garrecht led the offence with a goal and three assists, while Kyle Woolridge had a goal and two helpers.

Joshua Drefs and Jackson Bowal both recorded a goal and an assist, while Hayden King and Jacob Hazzard rounded out the scoring with individual tallies.

Kaiden Morin stopped 32 shots in net.

The setback leaves Medicine Hat at 9-2-3 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season. The Hounds return to action Friday in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes (5-8-1).

U15 AAA male

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AAA Tigers split their weekend on the ice with a 6-3 loss to the Okotoks Oilers Saturday and a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames Sunday.

Tate Bowal led the push Sunday with two goals, while Kayden Yeaman added a goal and an assist. Josiah Jackson and Cole Fisher rounded out the scoring, and Adler Ames stopped 34 shots to collect the win.

Colby Gulliver scored twice in Saturday’s loss and Colby Metz added Medicine Hat’s third. Kolter Gans stopped 27 shots in the loss.

The split weekend leaves SEAC at 8-5-1 on the AEHL season. The Tigers return to the ice Saturday to host the Calgary Royals at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.

U13 AA male

The Medicine Hat Hounds Orange U13 AA squad fell 13-1 to the Olds Grizzlies on Saturday at the Kinplex.

Gavin Perry scored the only goal for Medicine Hat.

The loss drops Medicine Hat to 4-8-2 on the SCAHL season. The Hounds are back in action Saturday to host the Wheatland Braves (8-1-1) at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.
