Tigers lose eighth consecutive game

Medicine Hat is still searching for a win to break the slide.

The Tigers lost 7-3 Friday night in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes to extend their losing streak to eight games.

For the eighth game in a row the Tigers surrendered the first goal of the night as Lethbridge’s Justin Hall scored 1:19 into the contest. Nolan Bentham doubled the Hurricanes lead a little over six minutes later.

The Hurricanes held their lead for a majority of the frame before import defenceman Gleb Ivanov scored with 56 seconds left to bring Medicine Hat within one. The Russian’s first WHL goal was assisted by Oasiz Wiesblatt and Bogdans Hodass, a fellow import Tiger.

Medicine Hat continued their scoring in the second period when Corson Hopwo picked up his seventh goal of the season 2:51 into the period. Cayden Glover had the assist as the Tigers evened the score up at 2-2.

Over 10 minutes of tie hockey would go by before Hall scored his second of the game to re-establish the Lethbridge lead. The second period ended just as the first did, with the Hurricanes holding a one goal lead.

Logan Wormald extended Lethbridge’s lead to 4-2 only 6:57 into the third period.

The Tigers answered back less than four minutes later on Teague Patton’s third goal of the season to bring them within one with half a period remaining. Tyler Mackenzie and Oren Shtrom got the helpers on Patton’s goal.

Hall picked up his third of the game, and first career hat trick, with less than five minutes in the game to put the Hurricanes up 5-3.

Wormald notched his second goal of the night a minute later, then Logan Barlage added an empty-net goal to secure Lethbridge’s win.

The Tigers suffered from only having two power plays in the game as they have relied on the man advantage for their offence this season.

Hat netminder Beckett Langkow stopped 20 of the 26 shots he faced in his sixth start of the season. Lethbridge’s Jared Picklyk stopped 22 of the 28 shots he faced to pick up his second win on the year.

The Tigers look to get back in the win column when host the Winnipeg Ice Saturday night at Co-op Place. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
