The 48th annual Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds bantam tournament is this weekend and has featured high-end Western talent throughout its history.

The Hounds say over 700 players that have played in their tournament have been drafted to the Western Hockey League and 27 have made it to the NHL including stars such as Trevor Linden, Chris Osgood, Jarome Iginla and more.

The SEAC Tigers U15 AAA team gets their tournament underway tonight at 8:30 p.m. when they take on the Prairie Storm at the Kinplex. The rest of their round robin games are Friday at 11 a.m. against Northern Alberta at the Hockey Hounds Arena and Friday at 8 p.m. against West Vancouver at the FLC.

Ahead of this year’s tournament, the News has developed a list of players to watch from some of the 16 teams participating, with special input from Medicine Hat Tigers scout Ash Glover.

Cole Fisher, forward, SEAC TIGERS U15 AAA

The speedy winger has one of the better in-stride shot releases in the region. Fisher has the separation speed and lateral ability to attack in a variety ways and showcases great natural offensive instincts.

Rowan McDonald, forward, PAC U15 AAA SAINTS

McDonald is a strong left-shot forward who leverages all of his 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame to his advantage. He shows deceptive speed in transition and drives hard to the net.

Amadeo Sim, forward, St. George’s Prep U15

Sim is a versatile right-shot centreman who plays a heavy but skilled style. Sim displays sound offensive awareness and has a good shot.

Riley Boychuk, forward, Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA

Boychuk is a creative centre with good passing vision. The 2008-born forward likes to work plenty of give-and-go’s in the offensive zone. Fans can expect to see a bunch of mid-slot action from him.

Kazden Mathies, forward, Martensville U15 AA

Mathies’ long clean stride, strength and evasive skill make for a dynamic offensive weapon anytime he crosses the red-line. He is a natural shooter with both good weight and accuracy.

Luke Moroz, forward, Prairie Storm U15 AA

Moroz has a hand in basically everything offensively. He is a smart player who positions himself well and shows versatility. He is the best shot and creator on the team.

Kayd Ruedig, defence, Humboldt U15 AA

Ruedig shows great changes of pace within his play. He can either be the calm facilitator by pass on the breakout or when in possession, power his way through into prime scoring areas.
